The creative approach was to encompass the look and feel of the principal elements of the restaurant: service, food, theatre and ambience, Jo Sampson, the agency's creative director, commented: " when working with Jamie, as with all our clients, we try and capture 'him', not a pastiche of his character or the best bits - simply his genuine spirit and honest approach to food and wider concerns, and that is what is emulated in the design of Union Jacks."

'Blacksheep decided to give the restaurant a New York loft feel, combining wood and metalwork accents with a pared-down aesthetic. To make the space feel more intimate, they installed a raised platform with booth seating and bespoke timber latticework, as well as designing huge custom-made light-shades.'

'For the first branch of Jamie Oliver's latest British-themed restaurant venture, cliché was out and nostalgia was in as the interior recreates a simple, homely world of cafe dining with a flag on the screen'

'Major design features include a Scooter Wall, made up of many individual scooter headlights; a Market Place section to highlight the retail and theatrical aspects of the kitchen; bespoke wall treatments, both inspired by and commissioned directly from Italy and dynamic lighting treatments, from bespoke chandeliers to industrial-style workmen lights, in tongue-in-cheek gold casing'

'The light, clever interior is imbued with subtle references to postwar nostalgia, a blurring of bits of 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s aesthetics without referring to an exact year. '

'Union Jacks is more on-the-hoof, more spontaneous. The colour palette uses coordinated patels like a Disney cartoon, indie guiter bands play over the sound system, knitted tea cosies cover the teapots. the detailing is impressive, from the sutesy stickers on the chairs to the kitsch menu jacket'

'Its classy stuff - the wood-fired base really is pure class - but it's also an intelligent business construct: giving the impression of munificence while maintaining the beadiest eye on the bottom line'

'Careful interior design to some extent mitigstes this, with a giant central kitchen pushing the tables into orbit around it, making you feel less like you're dining in a cathedral.'

Jamie's Italian Restaurant

Objekt, October 2012

'It is probably the most stunning site to date according to Jamie Oliver: Jamie's Italian at Westfield London shoping centre at White City.'

'Interview with Tim Mutton in delivering environmentally conscious design, "Admittedly, designers have a difficult job. We constantly have to bridge the gap between the demands of the owner, the brand and the consumer, And yet surely we should all be doing more to encourage our industry to think differently about the specification and design process, reducing the need for unnecessary waste?". '

Novotel, Tower Bridge

Dolcevita, January 2012

The new design sought to create a sense of flow between the different spaces on the ground floor and add in pockets of interest in the form of smaller, punctuating spaces. The colour palette for the scheme was light with punches of colour, including ice blue and burnt orange, offset by dramatic black while monochrome tile flooring.
